At the request of SINTAN IP a Tanzanian gynecologist went to three dispensaries in Simanjiro District in the north eastern part of Tanzania. Purpose of his visit, which took place in August, was to make preparations for an on the job training for nurses, midwives and doctors in the area.
Earlier this year, the foundation had been asked by the local authorities in the district, about the possibilities of sending an NLS team to Simanjiro, to train the health workers of three dispensaries. During a working visit in March it became clear that the needs of the medical personnel were different. They preferred a training which focused more on basic obstetric care, like care during pregnancy and labour.
In consultation with the District Medical Officer in Simanjiro, it has been decided to organize an on the job training which meets the needs of the health workers. Due to the fact that the three dispensaries are short of staff it is not possible to organize a central training. It would mean that the healthcare facilities have to be closed for a few days.
The Tanzanian gynecologist has been financially supported by SINTAN IP during the final years of his study. He knows the area well and offered to organize the training. The idea is that he will be more involved with the activities of SINTAN IP in the future.
It is intended that the on the job training in Simanjiro district will take place in November or December this year.
